Procedures » Scar Revision
Scars from previous trauma or surgery may develop an unsightly appearance. The scar may be elevated or widened, or red or darkened in color. Although the scarring that occurs after a break in the skin is mostly a result of the individual’s genetic healing response, there may be other reasons why one might scar poorly. These might include tension on the area, previous infection, excessive sunlight, or others.
It may be reasonable to revise a scar if enough time has past since the injury or surgery (typically >1 year).
Dr. Gordley will assist you in not only surgically revising the scar, but also in the postoperative period by educating you in techniques to reduce heavy scarring. In addition, you may be a candidate for permanent makeup (tattooing) to help hide the scar)
