Although they only take minutes to create, a tattoo can be a lifelong reminder of the mistakes of youth. Many people find them embarrassing, especially if located in a noticeable location, and would like options for removal without scarring.
While in the past, many methods of tattoo removal left scars worse than the tattoo, we are now able to employ laser technology to selectively attack the pigments in the deep layers of the skin without damaging the normal skin, thereby reducing the potential for scars.
Depending on the pigments placed in the tattoo, we may need to utilize several different lasers to attack different color pigments.
These are typically Q-switched Nd:YAG (532 nm), Nd:YAG (1064nm), and Alexandrite (755nm) lasers.
It usually requires >5 treatments to appreciate a result, and some complex professional tattoos may take up to 10 treatments.
