Procedures » Facelift
The signs of aging that occur in the face are a result of genetics, sun exposure, tobacco use, and most important, gravity and time. The typical complaints are that of jowls in the lower face, deepened wrinkles from the nose to the mouth, dark circles under the eyes, and loose neck skin. In addition, deep furrows over and between the eyebrows, and excess skin over the upper and lower eyelids. A facelift will help to set back the clock by redraping the skin over the face and neck.
While a facelift will not stop the effects of aging or create a drastic change in the way a person looks, it will give a more youthful and refreshed appearance. Those who are healthy enough for the surgery and are non-smokers are candidates.
The scars are typically in front and around the ear, back into the scalp, and up into the temple, and possible under the chin. After the surgery, there will be some swelling and possibly bruising, which will subside over the next few weeks. Dr. Gordley will often perform a “short-scar” face lift in most patients, which eliminates the scar in the scalp behind the ear. This technique also pulls the excess skin upward instead of backward, preventing the “swept back” appearance common in many facelift patients.
This may be done in conjunction with other procedures (browlift, or upper eyelid surgery) to help create a more harmonious balance in the face.

Below demonstrates a 66-year-old woman who requested a more well-rested appearance of her youth, specifically complaining of her jowls, deep lines on the sides of her mouth, and drooping lax neck skin. This was addressed with a “short-scar” facelift (no incisions in the scalp behind her ears), as well as fat grafts to the nasolabial folds (lines from her nose to the corners of her mouth) and lips. Below is a ~3 month followup.
